Katy B
(Katie Brien) is an English singer-songwriter and a
graduate of the BRIT
School
in Croydon, London. She has also just completed a
degree in Popular Music at Goldsmiths College,
London.
Katy was
born in South London and has been described as "a
R&B, funky, house and garasge singer". As well
as going under the name Katy B, Katie Brien has
also performed under the name Baby Katy on DJ NG's
song "Tell Me". The name 'Katy B' appears to be
here to stay, however.
Katy was
offered what she called "major record label deals"
in 2009 and despite Katy's
Facebook Profile
listing her record label as 'unsigned', her first
single was released via the Rinse label on 22
August 2010.
Katy B has
worked with with Geeneus to cover the Kevin
Saunderson produced the tracks "Good Life" and "As
I". Geeneus works for Rinse
FM
which only received official recognition as a
legitimate radio station in June 2010. It had
previously been operating as a pirate radio
station. Rinse FM presented Katy B's first single,
Katy
On A Mission,
which was produced by Benga.
Katy also
provides vocals on the track "Hold Me" for The
Count and Sinden's debut album Mega Mega Mega. Katy
can also be heard on Magnetic Man's track "Perfect
Stranger".
Katy B
performed at the London Jazz Festival in 2009 with
Ms Dynamite and collaborated with Ms Dynamite on
her album.

hear Katy regularly being interviewed on Radio 1 -
it's fair to say that she's made it.
